Virgin Islands: USVI – BVI – USVI

Sample Itinerary

USVI – BVI – USVI, 8 nights

Luxury Yacht Charter in the British and US Virgin Islands, Caribbean

Like a smattering of jewels dividing the Atlantic Sea to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south, over 60 islands and cays comprise the Virgin Islands, which include the United States territories (USVI) to the west and the British overseas territories (BVI) to the east. Of the BVI, only 15 are inhabited.

The USVI’s most populous islands are St. John and St. Thomas, right next to the BVI.  Flying in to St. Thomas airport (STT) is very convenient from many USA locations. The pleasant climate, protected anchorages and comfortable cruising conditions make the Virgin Islands an ideal charter destination, where rugged volcanic islands rise out of the sapphire sea and white sand beaches play host to rum-filled full moon parties. St. Croix is a considerable distance and thus much more rarely visited.

The Virgin Islands offer the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure, where days can be spent diving the deep, exploring desolate islands, playing a round of golf, or luxuriating in a spa treatment and fine dining experience. Often referred to as one of “nature’s little secrets,” these islands and cays are but a short cruising distance from one another; each unique in the variety of experiences, scenery and amenities it offers.

Please note: use of WaveRunners or Jet Skis in the BVI is illegal – bringing silence (the ultimate luxury!). USVI locations for their use are limited.  With this itinerary, you would use them in the USVI at the start of your trip, and at the end of your trip.

Day 1

St. Thomas – St. John, USVI

Fly in to St. Thomas, airport code STT.

Relaxation is in the air as you arrive in sunny St. Thomas, where you’ll be greeted by your crew and transported to your home away from home for the week. Enjoy a refreshing cocktail and tasty canapés as you settle in to your accommodations before the yacht gets underway for the cruise to the island of St. John.

The smallest of the three U.S. Virgin Islands, St. John is a peaceful retreat, where migratory birds call from the treetops and dolphins and turtles play in the turquoise waters. Anchor out in Round Bay, off the East End of the island, where you can spend the afternoon zipping through the waters on the JetSki or snorkeling the depths to mingle with the colorful undersea life.

As the sun begins its decent, gather on the sun deck for a glimpse of the infamous green flash before taking a seat on the aft deck for a delicious gourmet al fresco dinner.

Day 2

St. John, USVI

After a delightful breakfast of fruit, pastries and cappuccino, cruise one-hour cruise to the north side of the island, where we’ll anchor in the scenic Francis Bay. From here the day can be spent enjoying various water toys and sunbathing on the sugar sand beach.

After lunch, plan a visit ashore for a tour of one or several of St. John’s ruins, from the remnants of an old schoolhouse to the ruins of once- bustling sugar mills. Hike along the self-guided Annaberg Historic Trail or head further inland to search for petroglyphs left behind by Arawak Indians along the Reef Bay Trail in the Virgin Islands National Park.

Back onboard, your professional chef will create another exceptional meal, punctuated by a decadent dessert. Retire to the sun deck with a digestif to relax under a blanket of stars as the day comes to a close.

Day 3

St. John – Jost Van Dyke, BVI

It’s off to the British Virgin Islands this morning, specifically the casually elegant island of Jost Van Dyke. Sip your coffee from the protected aft deck as you enjoy the passing scenery during the one-hour cruise, which takes us to Great Harbour.

The smallest of the British Virgin Islands, Jost Van Dyke is a volcanic island that offers mountainous peaks juxtaposed by white sand beaches and protected anchorages. Celebrate the island’s barefoot style and partake in the ritualistic swim to shore for a Painkiller at the Soggy Dollar Bar. Follow this up with a snooze in a hammock on the beach or on the spacious shaded sunpad on the bow.

Dinner tonight will begin with a Foxy’s punch at the famous Foxy’s Bar, followed by a beachfront Caribbean feast of BBQ chicken and ribs savored amidst live music and spontaneous barefoot dancing in the sand.

Day 4

Jost Van Dyke – Guana Island, BVI

Wake up slowly and savor your coffee or fresh pressed juice as we get underway for the two-hour cruise to Guana Island. One of the few remaining privately owned islands in the BVI, Guana Island is a quintessential Caribbean paradise. Largely a nature reserve due to its abundance of flora and fauna species, Guana comprises 850 acres of tropical forests ringed by seven white powder beaches.

We’ll anchor in the picturesque White Bay, whose welcoming waters will inspire an afternoon of snorkeling in the reef and exploration along the desolate beach. Hike inland to catch a glimpse of the red-legged tortoise, stout iguana, Caribbean flamingo, or any of the variety of protected animal species that live on the island.

After lunch onboard, tender to the exquisite Scrub Island Resort for an afternoon spa treatment followed by sundowners, dinner, and a magnificent view as the sun sets.

Day 5

Guana Island – Virgin Gorda, BVI

Greet the sunrise with a few yoga poses or curl up in the settee with a good book as the crew prepares for the journey from White Bay to Virgin Gorda. Sip a mimosa and nibble on breakfast canapés while enjoying the view during the cruise, which culminates in the protected North Sound.

The third largest and second most populous island of the BVI, Virgin Gorda is a mecca for watersports enthusiasts and guests can partake of a variety of activities, from snorkeling to jet skiing to diving the reef, as soon as the anchor is dropped.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch and the tropical view at one of the restaurant options at Oil Nut Bay Resort, followed by a spa treatment or a tender excursion to any of the surrounding islands and beaches.

Day 6

Virgin Gorda – Peter Island, BVI

The morning’s destination is one of Virgin Gorda’s most famous attractions: The Baths. Here, spectacular granite rock formations form a series of caves and pools that offer an exceptional swimming and snorkeling experience that is second to none. Spend as much time as you like here before we get underway once again for the ultra-relaxing Peter Island.

As we arrive in Little Harbour on Peter Island, take time to unwind with a cool drink on the aft deck and take in the beauty of this idyllic anchorage.

Day 7

Peter Island – Norman Island, BVI

Awake with the sunshine and dive into the crystal clear water for one more snorkeling adventure this morning before we get underway to the next exciting destination: Benures Bay off the storied Norman Island. Steeped in pirate lore, Norman Island is reputed as a real-life Treasure Island depicted by Robert Louis Stevenson.

After we’ve settled into our anchorage, the underwater discovery continues with cave snorkeling or a diving adventure in the Indians, one of the BVI’s best sites. Keep an eye out for gold doubloons or buried treasure, as the stories and rumours of such discovery have many explorers keen to try their luck canvassing the uninhabited island.

The adventure continues onshore at The Pirates Bight or The Club for sundowners and a hearty dinner. Laughter fills the air back onboard this evening, with games and conversation under the starry sky.

Day 8

Norman Island, BVI – St. Thomas, USVI

Begin your day with a dive off the yacht and a swim in the clear turquoise waters. A rainbow formed from the dissipating morning clouds sets the tone for yet another sunny day in the Virgin Islands. After a delicious breakfast of your personal favorites prepared by your professional chef, we’ll get underway for the return to St. Thomas with the option to stop along the way at a secluded anchorage for swimming, snorkeling or fishing as time permits.

A special luncheon hosted by your crew marks the culmination of a week of adventure. Toast to memories made and savor every last bite before taking to the water again aboard the water toys or jet skis in Brewers Bay, St. Thomas. As the afternoon wanes, dip your toes in the warm sand and sip on a refreshing cocktail before returning to the yacht for a luxurious gourmet dinner followed by dancing on the sun deck under a blanket of Caribbean stars.

Day 9

Enjoy a final breakfast and spend the morning as you like!  As your charter comes to a close, laugh with memories made and plan your next visit to enjoy the good life aboard!
